Getting your senior portraits taken is an exciting and memorable experience, but it can also be a bit nerve-wracking. After all, you want to look your best and feel confident in front of the camera. The good news is that with a few simple tips and tricks, you can learn how to pose and feel confident in front of the camera for your senior portraits. The better news? I'm going to direct you thru your entire sessio to get the looks you love!
-
Practice makes perfect: It’s important to get comfortable with posing before your senior portrait session. Take some time to practice in front of a mirror or with a friend, experiment with different poses and facial expressions. This will help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera and help you find the poses that work best for you. Add them to a Pinterest Board so I have an idea of your style.
-
Posture - Stand up straight: Good posture is key to looking confident and poised in your senior portraits. Stand up straight, roll your shoulders back, and keep your chin up. This will not only make you look taller, but it will also make you look more confident and self-assured.
-
Look natural: Posing is a necessity for compelling images, and as much as we'll pose you thru the entire duration of your session, they key is that we don't want it to look posed or forces. Your senior portraits should capture the real you, so try to relax and be yourself. Avoid overly posed or unnatural poses, and focus on showcasing your personality and individuality.
-
Be mindful of your hands: It’s easy to feel awkward and not know what to do with your hands during a photo shoot. To avoid this, try holding something such as a bouquet of flowers, a prop that represents your hobbies or interests or simply placing your hands in your pockets. Or just let me guide you. I'll tell you exactly what to do all the way down to your pinky fingers- :)
-
Express yourself: Facial expressions can make or break a photo, so don’t be afraid to show your personality in your senior portraits. Whether you want to smile, laugh, or look serious, your expressions should showcase your unique personality. I like to get a variety of looks but I prefer to lean more to what's natural for you. We'll chat about this important detail and your preference before we start.
-
Wear clothes that make you feel confident: The right outfit can make you feel more confident and comfortable during your senior portrait session. Choose clothes that make you feel good about yourself and that you feel comfortable wearing. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!
